This is the final part of an essay that explains how the author could be a good writer even though she wasn’t a “reader.”

The Adventures of Miss Becky McCoy
While on a trip to Arizona Territory in the 1880s, a socially awkward horse whisperer experiences adventures and personal growth.
Mystery surrounds Miss Becky McCoy when she shows up alone and unexpectedly at the Campbells’ ranch house in Southeastern Arizona Territory. Fourteen-year-old Cody Campbell befriends the quirky girl in the bright pink, feathered hat and becomes enthralled with her as he learns that she is deficient in basic spelling and reading skills, but she possesses the ability to communicate with horses and has the skills to cure them of their ills. Over the course of three days, Miss Becky’s adventures involve Cody, ailing horses, bucking broncos, outlaws, and Apaches. Ultimately, Miss Becky reveals to Cody that she is terrified she will lose her horse-whispering abilities as she becomes a woman. Only time will tell if her fear is unfounded, but another birthday is upon her.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I can sometimes get bored midway through books but the pace of the book was fast enough to keep me wondering what would happen next while not being so fast that the storyline felt rushed. From one adventure to the next, I kept learning more about Miss Becky and what makes her tick. This continued right up to the last page. I do hope I get to read about more of Miss Becky's adventures in the future!
I loved this book! I truly enjoyed my read and am hopeful for more Becky McCoy adventures to come. If you like a story that fully transports you to a different place and time, this book is for you. This is a unique story that mixes genres in a very refreshing and natural way. I highly recommend!
"The Adventures of Miss Becky McCoy" is another enjoyable book written by Sherrie Lyons! As the interesting characters and the story develop, we also learn about living in southeastern Arizona in the mid-1880s and about raising horses with attention to details. Although the target audience is younger than us since Miss Becky is a young lady learning about life, my husband and I recommend this book for everyone!
I enjoyed the character development and descriptive detail of the adventures of Becky McCoy. I also learned quite a bit about horses and appreciated the author's attention to details of that time period. I thought the idea of Becky being a gifted horse whisperer, intuitive and skilled with horses yet having poor academic ability added depth to her character. It was imaginative and informative, fresh and fun. I highly recommend this book.
Light reading, with adventure, humor, drama, teen romance, and bank robbers! But especially horses Author Sherrie Lyons pulls you in from the first intriguing paragraph, and keeps you wanting to read more right up until the end. I hope Miss Becky McCoy has a second adventure coming. The book is unusual—it’s sort-of a mystery, sort-of a romance or two, sort-of a horse lovers story, but it doesn’t fit neatly into any of those categories. One thing “fer shore,” you’ll be laughing at Miss Becky and her amazing thoughts and actions as she goes back and forth between childhood play and adult interactions.
This was certainly another hit novel from this author. Although the novel was intended for young adults, I found it to be an enjoyable, easy, and smooth read with a little bit of light-hearted comedy, adventure, and romance for all ages that also highlighted the importance of honesty, commitment, and friendship.

Part 2 of the Editing Experience essay describes the author’s experience as a writer who hired an editor.
“I have written works in a variety of genres, but the two stories currently available to the public are a play titled The Tragedy at Cambria and a coming-of-age novel called The Adventures of Miss Becky McCoy.”
